ALUS Program Notice For Beef Producers
Re Fence Maintenance
This notice is to inform beef producers that fence maintenance adjoining
watercourses and wetlands has been added to the ALUS program as an eligible
component. If producers apply for this incentive in the 2009/10 fiscal year, they
are eligible for a payment of 30 cents per meter of fence per year for a 4 year term.
In order to qualify for the payment:
- The field must be in an active pasture rotation,
- The fence must be a minimum of 5 meters from the edge of the watercourse or
wetland,
- The fence must be constructed in a manner that ensures total exclusion of
livestock from the watercourse and/or wetland, and
- The field must have the necessary alternate watering infrastructure and livestock
stream crossings.
When completing an application to the program, we suggest that you submit a list
of all your property numbers as opposed to just those for your pastured fields. You
may be eligible for payment for a number of other components of the program on
non pastured fields. You can also include fields that you lease if you will be
leasing the fields for the 4 year term of the agreement.
